What's a hackathon

A hackathon is a moderated workshop with a specific topic where experienced users and newbies can get together and share experience, improve parts of the featured project or step through some project internals.

YAPC::Europe 2007 hackathons

The conference will allow for up to 4 hackathon sessions. The session will last about 3 hours and take place in a dedicated lab. The hackathon moderator will give a short introduction (approx. 30min) into the topic and then… hack, hack, hack…

Moderators should prepare some tasks/issues to work on. As the crowd probably consists of beginners and experienced project members, tasks for both user groups should be prepared and selected after the project introduction. The hackathon programm could also be discussed in advance at the project’s mailing lists or web page, of course.

Sponsored traveling

For those willing to moderate a hackathon session we will provide sponsoring for travel and accommodation costs for up to 500 EUR.

If you want to moderate a hackathon at YAPC::Europe 2007, please contact the organisers at vienna2007@yapceurope.org .

Book Winners

During our monthly organization meeting we drew the winners of the two books we had promised to early bird registrants. The draw was conducted using a Perl script, of course. The two winners are:

Wiki & Google Map

As you probably know, we now have a Wiki which you can use to suggest talks, find room-mates, travel partners and other stuff you may want to accomplish with a wiki…

Thanks to Maroš we now have a very nice map, showing not only the venue and various hotels, but also Viennese sights and even subway lines.
