Dave Tompkins - How to wreck a nice beach. The Vocoder from World War II to Hip-Hop
Interesting book, but a bit hard to read, because it's very anecdotic. But if your interested in the overlap of WW2 Crypto tech and electronic music (and it seems that I am..), it's definitly worth the read.
For example, when reading "Cryptonomicon" I thought that the weird telephone/vinyl records setup Turing and Waterhouse are using was made up by Stephenson. It was not. And it's an ancestor of the vocoder.
